"An Acoustic Affair to
Benefit Our Forests"

Friday, April 25, 2008

Armstrong-Hipkins Center for the Arts DuBois Theatre on the Campus of Blair Academy

In hindsight, some would question whether we should we have attempted to plan an ambitious concert in less than 4 months, with a sinking economy and rising gas prices? But if the reviews are to serve as any indication and the photos herein linked, RVC managed to accomplish an amazing event in that the RHYTHM & VOCALS ARBOR DAY CONCERT: An Acoustic Affair to Benefit Our Forests, on April 25th, held to a high standard. Indeed, it proved that RVC continues to fearlessly plan creative and unique events with the intent to broaden public appreciation for our special mission. What began as an idea to host a musical fundraiser with an eye toward having it at Blair Academy’s new premier theatre, grew quickly and effortlessly thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of all participants. It was thus certainly worth the effort.

RVC'S Annual Protection
Fundraiser & Silent Auction

Trail PictureDennis Briede Lecture

RVC celebrated the conservancy's recent successes in protecting open space at their annual Land Protection Fundraiser and Silent Auction.

The main fundraiser event followed the Ferlas Pond tour, where guest mingled and made their silent auction selections, followed by a buffet style dinner.

Bob Canace, RVC president updated guests on the conservancy's progress and RVC trustee and local naturalist Dennis Briede gave a brief lecture on "Open Space Protection and its Effects on Society and Wildlife."

Proceeds raised by the fundraiser and silent auction will help offset the cost associated with protecting lands; such as appraisals, surveys, audits, and administrative costs, not subsidized by RVC's public funding sources.

The Ridge and Valley acknowledges the generosity of those who contributed to the event and encourage you to support the business that donated to our Silent Auction.

National Trails Day Celebrated

National Trial Days (Cornella)

Ridge and Valley Conservancy trustees and members joined together to celebrate National Trails Day on Sunday, June 6, by taking a hike in the newly acquired, Blair Creek Preserve. RVC trustee and naturalist Dennis Briede led the hike on former logging roads that give access to this deep-woods paradise.

Hikers saw and heard migrating songbirds, and marveled at the amphibian-rich vernal pools and clear streams. Barred owls, bear and bobcats also inhabit the preserve, but none were spotted on this day by the hikers.
